HOW WE FUND CANDIDATES

Candidates for federal office are funded by the National Association of Realtors® (the 30% of RPAC funds that we forward to NAR).

All candidates who seek funding are required to complete a detailed questionnaire to be considered for support.

Your VAR RPAC Trustees then review the candidate questionnaires. The questionnaire focuses on issues that could impact our industry and homeownership in Vermont, such as insurance, mortgage finance, fair housing, etc.

For the 2022 congressional race, VAR interviewed Becca Balint and Molly Gray.

RPAC TRUSTEES REQUEST FUNDS

The VAR RPAC Trustees review the questionnaire and also conduct interviews with the leading candidates. Interviews give us additional insights and also an opportunity to educate the candidates about the issues of importance to our members and our industry.

Following this process, VAR RPAC Trustees select the candidate they believe will best represent the interests of Realtors® and the real esate industry. VAR's RPAC Trustees make a formal request to NAR's RPAC Trustees for financial support of the candidate they have selected. Funds are then dispersed to the candidate to support their primary and general election campaign.

RACES FOR VERMONT STATE LEGISLATURE

Recommendations for statewide legislative races are brought to the VAR RPAC Trustees by the association's advocacy team. This year, several open statewide offices will be heavily contested in the primary. As a result, VAR's RPAC Trustees authorized support for some candidates for statewide office.

2022 GENERAL ELECTION

Following the August 9 primary, VAR's Advocacy team will review the slate of candidates and make recommendations to the VAR RPAC Trustees on select committee chairs and leadership and other candidates that support Realtor® issues. The trustees will then approve funding for candidates that fit this criteria.
