Real estate sales generally heat up during the summer months in Vermont, keeping area REALTORS® busy with home buyers and sellers. This summer has been no exception, but Vermont’s REALTORS® have also been busy collecting much-needed school supplies to support local schools.
REALTORS® across the state have been collecting school supplies for the past month as part of the Vermont Association of REALTORS® Adopt-A-School Campaign.
“As a REALTOR®, it is important to give back to our community,” said Lauren Gaffney Cohen, who serves on the Northwestern Vermont Board of REALTORS® Community Service Committee. “Teachers work at the center of our communities, giving their heart and soul to the children in their classrooms. The supply drive was just one of the ways we show our support for the teachers as they work tirelessly to lead our children to a brighter future.”
According to a recent survey by the National Center for Education Statistics, 94 percent of teachers spend their own money to stock their classroom with supplies and resources.
People’s Academy in Morrisville was one of many schools throughout the state supported by the REALTORS® Adopt-A-School campaign. “We at People’s Academy are so lucky to have community partners like the Lamoille Area Board of REALTORS®, who value education and support our schools,” said Jennifer MacDonald, who teaches at the Academy. “While supplies may seem like a small item, they play a critical role in the function of our schools so that we can provide equity and a high level of education to all students.”
“We want to improve the educational experience of our youth and make sure that our teachers feel appreciated and supported,” said VAR President Stephanie Corey. “REALTORS live and work in the communities they serve and are committed to making a difference in those communities. That’s who we are!”
